DAVID TURNER PRESIDENT/APRISF

David Turner was born on the Southside of Chicago. He finished his high school in Dayton, Ohio. While in high school, he had displayed his love for music by playing in the band.

In 1972, he worked at the Robert Kennedy Memorial in Washington D.C. as an ombudsman before he moved to Berkeley in California the following year. He continued his education by going to Chabot City College.

In 1987, he was hired at the San Francisco Municipal Railway as transit car cleaner and rose to the ranks to be a supervisor.

He started his union activism as a steward for the Municipal Railway Transit Car Cleaners. Throughout his career at MUNI, he served his members by making sure that dignity and respect of working people are maintained. Dave has committed himself to the growth and development of all the working class not only for his chapter but also for every member of the community.

Dave is currently the Vice President for the A. Philip Randolph Institute, San Francisco Chapter. He also held the following positions with SEIU 790, Executive Vice President, SF Trustee, Chief Steward and delegate to the Citywide Bargaining Team for almost 10 years.

Despite Dave’s busy day, he always finds time to play his saxophone. He loves to play jazz music..
